Relegation battle in the final phase
Ebersberg before the big finale: One more win needed to stay in the league
TSV Ebersberg won the relegation battle against SB DJK Rosenheim on Saturday afternoon with a 2:1 victory – and thus worked out a starting position that seemed almost unattainable just a few weeks ago. Before the last match in Holzkirchen, Ebersberg needs one more win to secure their place in the league on their own.
From a season that for a long time smelled of relegation playoffs, Ebersberg has made it to a final for direct salvation. The home win against Rosenheim was already the seventh game in a row without defeat – a streak that not only brings points but also a new self-confidence in the relegation fight.
A set piece puts Ebersberg on track early
Ebersberg made an early statement in a match with the corresponding pressure. In the 12th minute, the 1:0 came after a corner that Rosenheim could not clear decisively: Felix Hoppe scored from the second action next to the post – unstoppable for the goalkeeper.
Coach Michael Hieber subsequently classified the encounter as a typical game "down there," but not exclusively about fight and emotions. "If the definition means a lot of passion, then that's definitely what it was today," said Hieber. At the same time, he emphasized that his team also found solutions in terms of play: "It was already combined with a lot of playing content. That was rather untypical for such a relegation battle game. We had very good phases."
The early goal gave Ebersberg the necessary stability, without the hosts limiting themselves to just managing the lead. Especially the balance between structure and intensity remained a key factor for long stretches.
Defensive stability and substitutes decide the relegation battle
Ebersberg allowed little defensively overall and defended the lead for a long time with order and clarity. In a game where mistakes can decide an entire season, this stability was perhaps the most important difference.
It was also decisive that Ebersberg was able to add again in the final phase. After the five winter signings, Hieber visibly has more options in the second half of the season – and was able to bring in fresh attacking players at the right moment.
"We were able to add well. We brought on Johnny Kisungu and Aldin Rushiti as two fresh attacking forces," said Hieber. It was exactly this duo that decided the match in the 86th minute: Kisungu broke through in the penalty area, Rushiti converted the assist to make it 2:0 into the far corner.
Rosenheim did come back once more: Omer Jahic reduced the score to 1:2 in the 89th minute. But that did not change Ebersberg's victory.
The situation at the bottom of the table remains tight. The sports club does win the direct comparison, and the goal difference also currently speaks for Rosenheim – but Ebersberg can give the decisive answer themselves: with a win on the last matchday.
Before the finale in Holzkirchen, salvation is within reach
With the victory, Ebersberg has completely turned the perspective: from mere hope for a playoff spot to a concrete chance to secure direct survival without detours. The fact that Rosenheim is now level on points increases the pressure – but at the same time underlines how valuable this 2:1 win was.
Hieber formulated the task unequivocally: "We will need a win next weekend." And: "We will do everything in what is hopefully the last week to win the last away game as well and thus not be dependent on others."
After seven games without defeat, this attitude has become the new strength: Ebersberg no longer looks at calculations, but at their own performance. The finale awaits in Holzkirchen – and the chance to secure survival from a strong run.
